Power of PowerPoint Presentations

Sometimes we wonder what changes computers have brought to this world. The technological advancement has given us a different perception about this world. Our thinking has changed; life has moved in a different direction. Businessmen think about new ways of achieving their goals using the best of technology.

No matter how technology has evolved and help the industries, the Human mind still works in a way that they need to get convinced before they start something new. This power to convince and prime the customer comes from great visuals. In various experiments done across the world from time to time it has been found that we tend to visualize and think what our brains have been primed into.

A good PowerPoint presentation is just like priming the brain to think what has been shown. Great Visuals create great impact!!

  • Research determined in as early as 1894 that pictures are more memorable than text. This eventually became known as the Picture Superiority Effect.
  • Sixty-five percent of us are visual learners. This means imagery helps 65% of us understand and remember information better any time.
  • It is very rightly said that, “ A picture is worth a 1000 words” , that may not be as accurate to a 1000 words but studies have shown that “ A picture is worth approximately 84.1 words, according to cognition scientist Alan F. Blackwell.” The research went on to conclude that : “ The subjects created visuals to convey information and then described those images in words. The average number of words it took them to describe their images was 84.1”

Isn’t it then obviously a great idea to have more visual appeal to making effective communication?

This tells us that when pictures, infographics are used instead of just plain text we humans tend to remember more and hence retain more.

Colors influence how consumers view the quality of the brand visual elements are extremely beneficial in winning your client because they condense important points into graphic form. This can make a very strong impact on the audience.

Similarly, a graph with aptly used colors makes information seem much more real than it would seem if it were simply put in textual form. This makes them much more likely to remember the information and feel that it is important. Since much of what you are doing in a business presentation is trying to make people remember what you say, it is important to use charts and graphics. It is an easy format for them to interpret and take decisions. This alone is worth it!

In short, you can compare and analyze data effectively this way.

Graphics and Charts conveying information is a way that is not propositional i.e., charts are visual. This is an important point, because most people are visual learners. Graphics and Charts also break up monotony for people who are more propositional learners. This might help if the presentation is long.

Conclusion:

This brings us to why presentations are more effective way of representing information. Thus, a visual creates a much larger impact than words, roughly half of our brain is devoted to visual. Then it is obvious that we learn, remember and process faster what we see as visually appealing. Research say that up to 90% of judgments made about products can be based on color alone. With regards to the role that color plays in branding, results from studies such as “The Interactive Effects of colors”  show that the relationship between brands and color hinges on the perceived appropriateness of the color being used for the particular brand.

The benefits of presentation are endless and so are the endless possibilities and the impact it does create.

True Leaders understand the Power of PowerPoint and what it does Extremely well!
